I had my babies, Liam and Zoe, on July 21, 2011 at 8:11 and 8:13 am. They weighed in at 3 pounds (Liam) and 4 pounds 12 ounces (Zoe). Both are doing well. Ms. Zoe is up to 5 pounds 3 and a half ounces after a week at home following a 10 day stay in the NICU. Liam is up to 3 pounds 13 ounces and remains in the NICU but will be home, most likely, within the week after a 3 week stay in the NICU. Life at home with a newborn and one in the NICU has been interesting. But, I’m sure we haven’t seen anything yet, as we embark on having two newborns at home. It has been a blessing to be at home with the babes and to watch their growth and get to know them. I will keep you updated as things progress. Blessings, Amy

It is just precautionary and about keeping them with me for as long as possible. I will be available, via email, for updates, until the babes get here, for current/active clients. I won’t be back to the office or accepting any new clients until January 2012. If you are a current client now, get in touch with me in November if you want to be in touch via Skype/telephone. I will keep you all updated and let you know when Liam and Zoe get here. You will all remain in my thoughts.

Dear Clients,

As most of you already know, I am expecting twins in August. My doctors have
recommended that I begin my maternity leave, at the latest, at 34 weeks.
Therefore, my last planned day for therapy sessions is July 14, 2011. This is
my best “plan”, as the twins may have plans of their own. We will have to
take it week by week as we get closer to that time, and it could very well be
the beginning of July.

In preparation for maternity leave, I have spoken with several of my trusted
colleagues who have agreed to cover for me while I am gone. I will be returning
to the office at the beginning of January 2012. Depending on how things go
with the twins’ eating, sleeping, etc…, I may begin doing phone therapy and Skype
(online) therapy sometime in November 2011. If you are interested, please
contact me at that time.

The options for you during this time include taking a break from therapy and
starting up again when I get back from my leave, completing therapy with me
before I go, seeing one of my colleagues during the time I am gone temporarily,
switching over permanently to one of these therapists, or going through your
insurance company to find a new therapist on your plan.

If you decide you would like to meet with one of my colleagues, I have listed
all of their information below. They are all amazing at what they do, and so,
I have listed them in no particular order. If they take insurance, you will have
to double check your particular plan to make sure they are a provider. If they
are cash pay, you will have to work out a rate with them, as it may differ from
the agreement you and I have.

Ah, the holidays…..for most of us, the holidays can be filled with great joy and an equal amount of pressure and stress. Although some of the stress is out of our hands, some of it is self-created and can be countered with some simple shifts in our behavior and thought patterns.

As a general rule, many of us find ourselves back in our old familial roles as we come together with our loved ones for celebration. It is important to remember that many years have passed since we were children living in our parents’ homes having childhood conflicts with our siblings. But, an evening with the family can bring us right back to being that child or adolescent again. In addition to gatherings with family, there is the financial and time component to holiday gift giving and countless engagements during the holiday season. Additionally, the holidays, despite their wondrous nature, often bring up losses we have experienced.

During these times, a few things can keep us from collapsing under the pressure. While they won’t completely “fix” our stress, the following things can take the edge off of the season.

1) We can, and should, take some time every day for ourselves. Even if we can only find 5 or 10 minutes, having some quiet time to ourselves can help keep us grounded and relaxed. So, choose a time, day or night, and give back to ourselves. Practice some deep breathing or meditation. Write in a journal. Snuggle up to a pet. Reconnect with our own truth at our core.

2) Reach out to a friend or family member. If we are having a difficult time and feeling isolated, calling someone up or having a cup of tea or coffee with a friend or family member can help us reconnect to our sense of community and feel more connected.

3) Say “no”. Resist the temptation to over-commit to activities. Choose the events that are most important to you, and set a limit when you know you have to slow down and take care of yourself. Act out of desire, not obligation.

4) Limit spending to what you can actually afford. Remember, the true meaning of the season is a far cry from outspending your budget and stressing out about it for months before and after the holidays. Consider a “no gifts” policy with friends or a gift exchange with a name draw for one person in the family. Some families have moved to only getting gifts for the children and eliminating adult gifts altogether. Consider the time you have with loved ones as the real gift.

5) Live in gratitude. Practice mindfulness and samtosha, contentment. Focus on what you do have and what is working for you in your life. Consider those less fortunate, and focus on what has been provided for you. A gratitude journal is a great way to practice contentment.

6) Remember to exercise, sleep 7 to 8 hours a night, and eat consistently. You will need all the support you can give yourself during this time.

7) Give yourself a break. We are all imperfect human beings just trying to make our way. This can be a tough time of the year. Practice compassion for yourself and others.
