Individual counseling is a collaborative effort between a client and counselor created to foster positive growth and change within a safe, therapeutic environment. The counseling experience is different for each person but generally includes a combination of discussions and experiential learning, as well as homework between counseling sessions.

The first few sessions will involve an evaluation of client needs. By the end of the evaluation, clients will be offered some first impressions of what the therapeutic work will include and a treatment plan that will be followed for the duration of treatment.

FEES FOR INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING = $85 per hour.

Family counseling can involve any or all members of a family. Many times, family counseling is a very effective way of resolving parenting problems, life stage issues, step-family problems, or any other situation that impacts family members. Children of all ages have a lot to offer and much to gain from being able to participate in a process that teaches better communication skills, better conflict resolution skills, and better ways of expressing difficult feelings.

Systems theory focuses on the overall system of interactions and organization of a person within his or her environment. Family counseling at GrowthWorks Counseling is based on Systems theory.

Group counseling posits that people benefit from shared experiences. Usually group counseling is focused on a particular issue. While group sessions are managed by a counselor, contributions from other members in the group are considered valuable since all in the group members share similar issues.

One of the main principals behind group counseling is the idea that dealing with specific issues may cause isolation, and a feeling that one is alone in facing one’s problems. Group counseling attempts to counteract this isolation by assembling people with similar issues to enforce that difficulties are not singular to one person. Additionally, knowing other people with similar troubles can be comforting to each individual, who may not have access in their own family and friends to people with the same problem.

Group counseling may be highly organized, with people doing specific activities together and then sharing the results. Alternately, it may be more freeform, where people share current issues related to the group’s purpose.
